Week 10
Week 10

This week we have mostly been working in the townhouse, as we haven’t been able to access the café premises to do much work there.
On Tuesday evening I had a scheduled inspection for my company van. I have to admit I was a bit nervous about it, since the last inspection ended with the van being left at the workshop for three weeks due to long delivery times for spare parts and the garage being very busy. After about an hour and a half of waiting, it was finally my turn. Fortunately everything went well and the staff were very friendly. So now I’m good to drive for another six months before the next inspection in September. For some strange reason vans have to be inspected every six months — why exactly, one might wonder!
It has been quite a wet week with rain coming and going almost every day, but that’s the season we are in right now.
All the walls on the third floor are now fully covered with drywall. Most of the work this week has involved filling and sanding both the new walls and some of the existing walls and ceilings. We have also started painting one of the rooms, which fortunately required very little filling beforehand.
The plumber has now installed all the water and drainage pipes for the new bathroom. The only thing remaining is to connect everything in the ceiling of the floor below. Meanwhile, the tiler has started working in the bathroom and has already completed tiling on two walls, as well as installing the floor tiles and the shower tray.
We finished the week by removing part of the old floor in the café, closest to the entrance. The floor there was very uneven, and we need to start preparing the entrance area for the new flooring. The new glass section will arrive next week, and part of the floor needs to be in place so it can be installed properly.
The challenge is that the existing glass section is still in place and cannot be removed yet, since that would leave the entire space open to the outside. So next week will definitely be an exciting one as we figure out how to manage that transition.
Removing the old floor created quite a lot of demolition material, so we had to load it up and drive it away, followed by cleaning the area so the tiler can level the floor and start laying the beautiful new tile flooring.
All in all, steady progress this week — and we’re looking forward with anticipation to what will happen next week!
