The tiler leveled the floor and laid tiles where the new glass section will be installed.
We also did some work in the semi-detached house at the beginning of the week, including filling, sanding, and a bit of painting. The tiler is working there as well and is almost finished with the new bathroom—only a column still needs to be covered. The plumber and electrician have also been making good progress there.
On Tuesday, the neighbor came over and tried to talk to me in Spanish. As usual, I replied with my standard phrase: that I speak very little Spanish. Despite that, I still understood more or less what he meant. It turned out that a lot of water had collected on a balcony at the front because the drainage holes were blocked with debris. As a result, water started running over the side of the balcony and down onto the neighbor’s facade. After cleaning the drainage holes, the water disappeared quickly.
On Tuesday, my colleague received the window installers at the café when they delivered all the parts and started preparing for the installation on Wednesday. The rest of the week we worked in the café premises. Demolition of the old window section and installation of the new one began on Wednesday and was fully completed on Friday. However, everything was already sealed and weather-tight by Wednesday evening.
We got rid of the old window section immediately, as there are always people who want scrap metal. That’s great for us since we don’t have to load it up and take it to the recycling center—win-win for everyone!
We finally had the ventilation duct delivered, so it was installed right away. That allowed us to continue by insulating above the suspended ceiling and keep working on plasterboarding the ceiling.
On Friday, the electrician also came and removed the old temporary electrical panel that had been hanging from the ceiling, so now we can continue working on the ceiling in that area as well.
Next, we’ll finish building the ceiling by the new glass section. That will take some time because it needs to be built down like a boxed structure to make room for the AC units and the ventilation ducts leading to the ventilation grilles at the top of the new glass section.
Ceiling filling has also started in the kitchen, bathroom, corridor, and part of the bar area.
Next week we will also go and look at a potential new job. A couple stopped outside the premises where we were working and asked if we would be interested in coming to see their house, where they need some help. Of course we’ll go take a look, and then we’ll see what comes of it!
We’ll also be installing flooring in the café next week. Thursday is a public holiday in Valencia, so we’ll probably take the day off and maybe go and check out Fallas, which is currently in full swing.
