Week 6

Week 6

Hello and welcome to follow my blog.

My idea with this blog is to share what everyday work in my company looks like, basically a bit about what’s going on during the weeks.

There might also be some content from my free time! We’ll see how it all develops.
I’ll try to write once a week, but it might be more often than that too!

At the moment, we’re working on two larger projects at the same time. One is a commercial space that will become a new café, and the other is a semi-detached house that will undergo a major renovation.

The café premises were an empty space, with only a small area containing a toilet in one corner. When we started demolishing the toilet, we got a visit from a woman from the neighboring unit because we were breaking down the brick walls. It turned out they had a kitchen on the other side of the wall, and things were falling off their walls due to the vibrations!

I can also mention that she’s visited us more times when we were cutting channels in the brick walls for upcoming electrical wiring. We’ve also been in contact with the hair salon next door, as items have fallen from their walls as well!
It’s always exciting to work here! The brick wall between this unit and the hair salon is only 7 cm thick…

All the steel studs that separate the kitchen, staff toilet, and accessible toilet for customers, as well as the serving area, are now in place. All the steel profiles for the suspended ceiling are also installed, except for the area closest to the street. This is because a completely new glass façade with a new entrance door will be installed.
All water lines and drainage pipes are also in place. Now we’re waiting for the electrician to start so we can move forward!

During this past week, which was a bit shorter due to a public holiday on Thursday, we also had a less pleasant job. It was an apartment that had mold on all exterior walls and on the bathroom ceiling. These jobs are never fun, but they need to be done as well.
We went there and cleaned all surfaces with a special mold-cleaning solution, then returned two days later to paint the surfaces with anti-mold paint.

What’s notable about this apartment is that my colleague did the same work less than a year ago! The family living there doesn’t want to open windows to ventilate, which is necessary since humidity is quite high in Valencia. When many people live in a small space, proper ventilation is essential to prevent mold.
We pointed this out again and hope we won’t have to return to this apartment!

We ended the week by visiting a commercial space that is planned to be converted into an apartment. If everything goes as planned, we’ll be helping the client with this project starting in March.
