Weeks 39–40

The past few weeks haven’t involved much work, as things are a little quiet for us at the moment.

We replaced an old wooden apartment entrance door with a new steel security door. The replacement was on the third floor, and the complete door wouldn’t fit in the lift. Fortunately, we were able to take it apart, and luckily the door leaf itself fitted in the lift. We had to carry the frame upstairs, but that was the lighter part of the two. The installation went very well, and I’m very happy to have a proper frame rather than the usual MDF rubbish.

My colleague and I have also put together a number of quotations this week, which are now ready to be sent to customers who have been waiting for them!

We received an immediate response to one of them, as the customer approved the replastering of the walls in one of their bedrooms. There has been moisture damage that caused the existing plaster to come away from the walls. The walls will now be replastered using a breathable mortar and then painted with breathable paint. We will carry out this work in mid-November, at the same time as we repaint the exterior of their house.

The vehicle inspection also took place last week, as it had been six months since the previous one! Everything went well, with only a few notes regarding some stone chips in the windscreen and a little surface rust underneath the vehicle. So now I can drive for another six months before it’s time for the next inspection!

I’ve also been at the café. There is still no opening date in sight, as we are still waiting for an electrician. However, I have stained some of the boards that will be used for the seating bench and assembled the frame for the bench.
